Kakadu National Park

Hi, today and the two following days, we will be at Kakadu National Park. Bonjour, aujourd’hui et les 2 prochains jours, nous serons dans le Parc National du Kakadu.

Day 1 As we were coming from the North, we wanted to take a shortcut to see the Jim Jim Falls located in the South of the Park. Ahah It was a 4WD only road, it took us the day to cross that road. This was THE real 4WD. We crossed a 1 meter deep river, the 4th wheel was in the air sometimes. Crazy drive and so much fun for Antoine. He loved it so much. After that tiring road, we set up the camp and enjoy a sunset near a river where Aussies were fishing Barramundi. Comme nous venions du nord, nous voulions prendre un raccourci pour aller voir les chutes d’eaux de Jim Jim situées au sud du parc. Ahah, c’était un chemin 4x4 uniquement, cela nous a pris la journée pour le traverser. C’était vraiment UNE aventure 4x4. Nous avons traversé une rivière d’eau d’1 mètre, la 4ème roue de Joe était dans les airs parfois. Une conduite assez folle et beaucoup de fun pour Antoine. Il a surkiffé. Après cette route fatigante tout de même, nous avons installé notre campement et profité d’un coucher de soleil avec des Australiens qui pêchaient du barramundi.

Day 2 This is finally the D-day to see to Jim Jim falls ahah but before reaching that spot, still 50kms of corrugated and unsealed roads. It was worth the drive. The area was really nice and quiet. The swim was bloody refreshing and the picnic spot was perfect. Coming back on the road again (the sealed one), we set up the camp in another camping where we had a clear sky full of stars while chating together near a campfire. Wonderful moment. C’est finalement aujourd’hui, le jour J où nous allons pouvoir aller aux chutes d’eaux Jim Jim mais avant d’atteindre le spot, 50 kilomètres de routes off road. Ca valait le coup de faire tous ces efforts. L’endroit était vraiment sympa et calme. La baignade était méga fraiche et le spot pour pique-niquer, parfait. De retour sur la route une nouvelle fois (goudronnée cette fois ci), nous avons installé notre tente dans un autre camping où nous avons pu profiter d’un ciel dégagé pleins d’étoiles en discutant au bord du feu. Moment incroyable.

Day 3 Last day in Kakadu National Park but not the least. Today, we are going to see the Maguk falls and Gunlom falls. The first one, we arrived early in the morning but we could not find the way to go to the top of the falls. We had a swim at the bottom in clear waters and finally found a way. Up there, it was astonishing, the view was stunning and we had the chance to swim and jump in small pools. The place was beautiful with water reflecting against the rocks. Dernier jour dans le Parc du Kakadu mais pas des moindres. Aujourd’hui, nous allons voir les cascades Maguk et Gunlom. La première, nous y sommes arrivés tôt le matin mais nous n’avons pas trouvé de chemin pour grimper au sommet des chutes d’eaux. Nous nous sommes donc baignés en bas dans une eau claire pour finalement trouver le chemin. Là-haut, c’était magique, la vue était dingue. Nous avons eu la chance de nous baigner dans des petits trous d’eaux et faire quelques sauts. Le reflet de l’eau contre les roches rendait l’endroit magnifique.

Then, we headed to the Gunlom Falls in the end of the afternoon. We had to walk to the top of the falls as well to discover an infinity pool with the view of the whole park. Wordless, the spot was impressive. Ensuite, nous sommes allés à la cascade Gunlom en fin d’après-midi. Nous devions également marcher jusqu’en haut des chutes pour découvrir une piscine naturelle à débordement avec une vue sur tout le parc. Nous étions sans voix, l’endroit était impressionant.

We had really good time in the national park. Paying 40$ per person to spend a week there is worth it. We did 4WD, swimming, hiking, camping. That kind of moment we will remember our whole lives. Nous avons passés 3 jours exceptionnels dans ce parc national. Ca vaut vraiment le coup de payer 40$ par personne pour y passer du bon temps, du très bon temps même. Nous avons pris des chemins 4x4, fait de la randonnée, fait du camping… Ce genre de moments que nous nous rappellerons toute notre vie.
