Mount Kyaiktiyo

Hello, it is 6:30am in the morning, and after a quick breakfast we are at the bus stop, ready to go to Kyaiktiyo aka Golden Mount. This mount is famous for its golden rock at the top of the mountain and all the temples and villages surrounding him.

Coucou, il est 6h30 du matin, et après un petit déjeuner rapide, nous sommes à la station de bus, prêt à aller à Kyaiktiyo, aka le Mont Doré. Ce mont est célèbre pour son rocher d'or niché au sommet d'une montagne et tous les temples et villages l'entourant.

However, to reach this mount, it is a big journey ahead of us. First, the bus arrived one hour late. So we left at 7:30am for more than 3 hours of bus. The scenery was stunning. A lot of pagodas and stupas popping out from green jungles and forests. Really beautiful. Then, once arrived at Kyaikto, the chef-lieu, we had to take a pick-up truck for 10 minutes to reach the hotel. We booked an adorable hotel with bamboo, Golden Sunrise Hotel. We had a nice room with teak wood in the middle of a jungle garden, so peaceful. Cependant, pour rejoindre ce mont, il y avait une grosse journée devant nous. Premièrement, le bus est arrivé avec 1 heure de retard. Donc nous sommes partis à 7h30 pour plus de 3 heures de trajet. Le paysage était magnifique. Beaucoup de pagodes et de stupas poussant au travers des jungles et forêts vertes. Vraiment très beau. Ensuite, une fois arrivés à Kyaikto, le chef-lieu, nous devions prendre un petit camion pendant 10 minutes pour rejoindre notre hôtel. Nous avons d'ailleurs réservé un adorable hôtel entouré de bambouserais, l'Hotel Golden Sunrise. Notre chambre était super chouette en teak au milieu d'un jardin jungle, très calme.

We check-in and then we had to walk 10 minutes to another small village in order to take another pick-up truck (a bigger this time). We had to jump into the truck as there was no door to enter in. Ahah we felt packed as animals. The journey to reach the top of the mount was about 45 minutes going up up up on a bumpy road. That was quite an experience. The truck was full of local people, tourists, vendors of snacks and food… All kind of people. That was funny. Nous nous sommes enregistrés puis nous devions marcher 10 minutes pour aller dans un autre village afin de prendre un autre camion (vraiment plus gros cette fois-ci). Nous devions littéralement sauter dans le camion car il n'y avait pas de portes pour entrer. Ahah nous nous sommes sentis parqués comme des animaux. Le trajet pour rejoindre le haut du sommet prenait environ 45 minutes sur une route bien cabossée. C'était une sacrée expérience. Le camion était rempli de locaux, touristes, vendeurs de snack et de nourriture en tout genre... toutes sortes de personnes. C'était bien drôle.

Finally, yes finally, we arrived at the top. The last step was to pay the foreigners’ fees to access the site (10 000 kyats = 6€). Yes, you read well ‘foreigners fees’, only tourists have to pay those ‘entrance fees’, we felt that it was not really fair, but it is part of visiting another country. We were not disappointed about the Golden Mount when we discovered this amazing golden rock, set on the cliff of the mountain. I have no idea how can the rock stay like this. Antoine had the chance to have a closer look and touch the golden rock as only men were authorized to do it so. I was a bit disappointed after this long journey but it is also the rules of another religion. Enfin, oui enfin nous sommes arrivés au sommet. La dernière étape consistait à payer les frais d'étrangers pour accéder au site. (10 000 kyatts = 6€). Oui, vous avez bien lu, les frais d'étrangers, seulement les touristes doivent payer ces frais d'entrée, nous avions quand même le ressentit d'une injustice, mais ça fait partit des visites d'un autre pays. Nous n'avons pas été déçu du Mont Doré quand nous avons découvert cet impressionnant rocher d'or, monté sur la falaise. Je n'ai aucune idée comment se rocher peut rester maintenu comme ça. Antoine a eu la chance de s'approcher et de toucher ce rocher comme seulement les hommes y étaient autorisés. J'étais un peu déçue de ne pas pouvoir m'approcher après ce long périple, mais ce sont aussi les règles d'une autre religion.

We also had an amazing view of the valley surrounding us. This was a long journey to arrive here but we had no regret about it. Look at that, isn’t it impressive? The diner was well deserved at the end of the day.

Nous avons également eu une magnifique vue des alentours et de la vallée qui nous entourait. C'était un long périple pour venir jusque ici mais nous n'avions aucun regret. Regardez ça, impressionnant, non ? Le diner était bien mérité à la fin de cette journée.

After a great breakfast, we could go back to Yangon by bus and there to take a… bus again ahah to go to Bagan. Long journey again ahead of us. See you soon. Take care.
