White Water Rafting at the Rangitikei River – River Valley Lodge

Hello, I don’t know if you like trying new sport, new adventure to get more adrenaline, but we looooove that. That’s the reason why we couldn’t miss the chance to try rafting, one of the most popular activity in New Zealand. We chose to raft the Rangitikei River, white water Grade 5 to have the most adrenaline we could. Doing rafting was the first time for Ines but Antoine already done once but not with that grade and speed. Hello, je ne sais pas si vous aimez essayer de nouveaux sports, de nouvelles aventures pour avoir toujours plus d’adrénalines, mais nous on adooooore. C’est la raison pour laquelle, nous avons sauté sur l’occasion lorsque nous avons appris que la Nouvelle Zélande était le pays du rafting. On a choisi la rivière Rangitikei en eau douce niveau 5 pour avoir le plus d’adrénaline possible. C’était la première fois qu’Inès faisait du rafting et Antoine la deuxième fois mais pas à cette vitesse et niveau-là.

We arrived at the River Valley Lodge where we booked the rafting session the day before. We spent the night there at the dedicated campsite in such a lovely place. We barely slept near the Rangitikei River, the river we will raft the day after. This lodge is a small family business and the people there were really kind and nice. This lodge is self-sufficient because they offer meals with products that have been cultivated in the near fields. We also really appreciated its eco-friendly way of living. Nous sommes arrivés au River Valley Lodge, lodge la veille. Nous avons passé la nuit là-bas sur leur site de camping, un endroit adorable. On a simplement dormi au pied de la rivière que nous allions rafter le lendemain. Ce lodge est une petite entreprise familiale et ses gens étaient adorables et super gentils. Ce lodge est auto-suffisant et propose des menus avec les produits cultivés dans les jardins avoisinants. Il est également écoresponsable, ce que nous avons grandement apprécié.

We had to wake up early in the morning to eat a quick brekkie and to start the journey. We couldn’t wait, we were so excited. We had a briefing about general rafting, the Rangitikei River and its features, the gears and the explanation of the journey. After being equipped with all the gear and specific clothes, we took the bus to go to the starting point. It was really in the middle of nowhere, in the New Zealand countryside, we loved that so much. Nous devions nous lever assez tôt pour manger un petit-déjeuner et attaquer cette aventure !! On avait tellement hâte, trop excités. On a eu un briefing sur le rafting en général, la rivière Rangitikei et ses conditions, l’équipement et l’explication de la session. On a ensuite pris le bus pour aller au départ. C’était réellement au milieu de nulle part, dans la campagne néo-zélandaise et on a adoré !

Our guide was so funny, and we had the chance to have him on our raft with two other people. We spent 4 hours with him and we had so much fun. He explained us how to raft with him guiding us 'forward' 'backward' 'lean right/left' 'jump right/left', we can say now we are pro ahah. Notre guide était très marrant, on a été très chanceux car il a été sur notre bateau avec également 2 anglais ultra sympa. On a passé 4 heures avec lui, 4h de fous rires. Il nous a vraiment bien expliqué comment rafter en nous guidant avec ses expressions.

Once arrived, a hot shower was appreciable and a hot meal as well. We enjoyed the rest of the day under the sun and packed the tent to drive to Wellington. Our final step of the North Island. On a profité du reste de l’après midi au soleil et on a enfin replié la tente pour prendre la route en direction de Wellington. Notre dernière étape sur l’île du Nord. A tout bientôt. I&A
